Celebrate Virginia concert series staying put

Darius Rucker performs at Celebrate Virginia Live in July 2011. He is among the big-name acts that have come to the Fredericksburg concert series.

The Celebrate Virginia Live concert series will return for a fifth season to a site off Gordon W. Shelton Boulevard in Fredericksburg’s Celebrate Virginia South development.

There had been some discussion about moving the series to a paved area outside the nearby Fredericksburg Expo & Conference Center for the 2013 season, but ultimately a decision was made to keep it where it has been the past four years. The 2013 schedule has not been announced yet, but season passes are now on sale.

The land where the shows will be held in 2013 has significant real estate tax delinquencies, creating the possibility that the property may be sold at auction this summer along with much of the undeveloped portions of Celebrate Virginia South. It’s unlikely, however, that a tax sale would occur until after the 2013 summer season, said Jud Honaker, president of commercial development for Celebrate Virginia developer the Silver Cos.

In the unlikely event that the auction were to occur during the season, Honaker said, the new owner could honor the lease agreement with concert promoter David Peterson. If that didn’t work, the series could shift to the Expo Center site.
