Stafford glass company investing in equipment

A Stafford County plant that fabricates and distributes glass products is investing in about $100,000 worth of equipment, which could ultimately create a couple of dozen new jobs.

Hawkins Architectural Products, which is at 35 Venture Drive near Stafford Hospital, will add the equipment for its insulated glass line early next year, said branch manager Don Power. The company hopes to pick up business that could lead to a second shift and another 25 or so jobs. About 45 people work at the 40,000-square-foot facility currently.

Hawkins fabricates and distributes a variety of glass products used in residential and commercial construction, such as windows and shower doors.

Colorado-based private equity firm Grey Mountain Partners purchased the Stafford-based flat-glass and acrylic product business earlier this year from Hawkins Glass Wholesalers LLC. The company continues to lease the facility from the previous owner.
