UMW staffer wins first Dangler leadership award

The first recipient of an award named after the A. Smith Bowman Distillery’s longtime master distiller was honored Wednesday night.
Susan E. Knick received the Joseph H. Dangler Leadership Visionary Award during a celebration of Leadership Fredericksburg’s five-year anniversary held at Stevenson Ridge in Spotsylvania County.
Dangler, who last year retired from the Spotsylvania distillery, has long been involved in the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce’s leadership program. He continues to be part of the program.
The new award goes to a graduate of Leadership Fredericksburg who has been a top community leader. Knick, who was in the program’s Class of 2009, is the University of Mary Washington’s director of scheduling and events. She has played an important role in the development of the Leadership Fredericksburg Alumni Association and has been a mentor for subsequent Leadership Fredericksburg classes.
