Sales tax receipts up locally

The five localities in the Fredericksburg area collected about $3.5 million from sales tax receipts in June, up about 3 percent from the same month in 2011.

Both Spotsylvania and Stafford counties collected more than $1 million in June. That was the first time Stafford has hit the seven-figure mark in any month other than December, according to Virginia Department of Taxation data.

The data also include the city and King George and Caroline counties.
