Work starts on Aldi store along U.S. 17 in Stafford
Construction work has started on an Aldi grocery store and a multi-tenant retail building on U.S. 17 in Stafford County.
Aldi is building a 17,000-square-foot store at the Berea Marketplace development across U.S. 17 from Geico and Walmart. It’s expected to open early next year.
DLR Contracting has started construction on an 8,500-square-foot retail building next to Aldi. A 7-Eleven convenience store (no gas) and ABC Phones (a Verizon Wireless retailer) have both leased about 2,500 square feet, and a national restaurant chain is in negotiations to lease about 2,000 square feet.
Berea Marketplace is a project of Development Consulting Services and the Silver Cos. A Union First Market Bank branch is already open there.
The construction is the latest example of increased activity on U.S. 17 in Stafford. Merchant’s and Goodyear are both planning automotive service centers near the intersection of Celebrate Virginia Parkway. AutoZone opened a store where a Pizza Hut used to be located along the corridor. Wawa is planning a store in front of Carter’s Crossing, and the Silver Cos. is working on deals to bring two restaurants to adjacent land from the planned Wawa.
