Washington Avenue to be rebuilt this week

MORE: Read more news from Fredericksburg

No-parking signs have been posted along Washington Avenue in anticipation of the project’s start.

Washington Avenue in Fredericksburg will be rebuilt starting Wednesday morning between Maury and Amelia streets.

Crews will mill the existing asphalt, lay 3 inches of base asphalt and then put down an inch and a half of surface asphalt. Fredericksburg Public Works Director Doug Fawcett said the finished product should last 20 or more years.

Residents won’t be able to park along Washington while the work is going on between Wednesday morning and Friday evening. The road will be closed to through-traffic, but people who live in the immediate area will be allowed to get to and from their driveways.

Still, because people won’t be allowed on the asphalt while it’s drying, residents are advised to park in places where they won’t be required to travel through the work area.
