More people dining out in the ‘Burg

Interior designer Stacey Lampman goes over plans for Vivify Burger Lounge with Blake and Aby Bethem. The William Street eatery is one of the many new restaurants planned in Fredericksburg.

More people appear to be dining out in Fredericksburg.

Meals tax revenue for the city was about $9.37 million for the fiscal year ending June 30, City Manager Beverly Cameron reported in a recent memo to Fredericksburg City Council. That was up about 6 percent over fiscal year 2011, when the city’s meals tax revenue grew 8.7 percent over fiscal 2010.

Cameron said in his memo that the strong meals tax revenue should provide a “significant source of surplus” that the city can put toward current or future capital needs.

Several new restaurants have opened in the city in the past year and many more will open this year — including The Orion, The Chimneys, Jorge’s Cantina, Vivify Burger Lounge and Jay’s Restaurant and Lounge.
