Deedod receives $20K grant, plans Spotsylvania office

A local technology startup will establish its first non-residential office in Spotsylvania’s Bowman Center and receive a $20,000 grant from the county to help get it established.

Deedod Inc., which built and continues to maintain the National Football League’s popular mobile website, earlier this month received the $20,000 commitment from Spotsylvania’s Economic Development Authority as part of the EDA’s Business Incentive Grant program.

Business partners David Cook and Matt Armstrong have been running Deedod, which focuses on new digital media products, from their homes in south Stafford. We featured the company here.

Deedod’s lease at 3302 Bourbon St. starts July 1, and the company expects to be settled in by mid-July.

Armstrong said the company looked around Stafford, Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania before settling on the Bowman Center. Armstrong and Cook established a good relationship with Spotsylvania’s economic development officials, and the pair liked the Bowman Center’s architecture, history, vibe and location. It also offers room to expand.

Deedod hopes to help attract other tech-related and entrepreneurial ventures to the Bowman Center, a goal Spotsylvania officials share.

Previous recipients of Spotsylvania Business Incentive Grant (BIG) awards were Face2Face LLC (doing business as the Merle Norman Cosmetics Studio at 5825 Plank Road in Harrison Crossing) and Downtown Garage Inc. at 4913 Massaponax Church Road. Spotsylvania officials expect more applications next quarter.
