Richmond children’s museum opening Chesterfield branch this weekend
The Children’s Museum of Richmond, which plans a branch in the Fredericksburg area, will officially open its Chesterfield County location Saturday.
That will be CMoR’s third Richmond-area location. Its main branch is in downtown Richmond, and there’s a satellite location geared toward younger children in the Short Pump area.
CMoR officials, who are working with the local women behind the Explore it! Children’s Museum, have said they will turn their attention to the Fredericksburg area after opening the Chesterfield branch. The museum has received numerous calls from local commercial real estate brokers and property owners courting the organization, but as of yet CMoR has not selected a site.
Museum officials have said previously that they hope to have the local branch open by the end of 2013, and that it will probably be in about 20,000 to 25,000 square feet.
Michelle Rosman, CMoR’s director of community and media relations, said in an email that the museum will focus on the Fredericksburg-area branch “after everyone catches their breath and takes their much-needed vacations.”
