Wine coming to Fredericksburg Farmers Market?
Wine tastings and sales could soon be allowed during select special events at the Fredericksburg Farmers Market.
City code currently prohibits alcohol possession and consumption in Hurkamp Park, where the market is held.
City Council on Tuesday night will consider changing the code to allow local wineries to offer tastings and make sales during special events at the market. City staff is recommending approval.
Wineries would be allowed to offer samples of up to only two ounces as well as closed-bottle sales under the change being proposed. Only one winery would be invited to participate at each special event. Participating wineries would be required to get a city business license and pay all appropriate taxes.
