Business Notes, Dec. 23

Here are some odds and ends from the world of Fredericksburg-area business:

  • Two packers from Stafford County-based Hilldrup Cos. have received the first United Van Lines Customer Hero Awards for their exceptional commitment to customer service. Ronald Ruiz and Ruth Portillo, who are married and live in the Fredericksburg area, received the awards at United’s annual convention in Orlando last month.
  • Sweet Reasons, a locally owned bakery specializing in gourmet cupcakes, has opened its store at 1672 Carl D. Silver Parkway next to a Starbucks in Fredericksburg’s Central Park shopping center.
  • Payne Trucking has completed its 2011 equipment expansion by taking delivery of an 18-truck order of International dump tractors and trailers purchased from Richmond International. The company has been expanding its business hauling bulk commodities and will open a new terminal in the Baltimore area in January.
  • HDT Robotics Inc. has signed a lease for 1,925 square feet of space at Synan Industrial Park in Stafford County. Ben Keddie of Virginia Properties and Steve Schattgen of Coldwell Banker Carriage House Realty brokered the lease. (Speaking of Schattgen, he joined Coldwell Banker from Avison Young a couple of months ago.)
  • Your Decor Consignment Furniture has opened a store at 445 Jefferson Davis Highway in Fredericksburg. Its previous location was in Stafford County.
