Several business matters on Dec. 13 public agendas

Public hearings involving several issues affecting the local economy are scheduled Dec. 13 in Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania County.

Fredericksburg City Council will consider changes to its incentives program. Among the proposed changes are making the entire city a technology zone, adding a tourism zone along the State Route 3 corridor, lowering the requirements of job creation and investment needed for businesses to qualify, and authorizing the city manager to approve performance agreements up to $100,000 without action from Council. The city’s Department of Economic Development and Tourism would send out media releases and pertinent documents after each incentive agreement was approved administratively, and also post the information on its website. Robyn Sidersky wrote about these matters here.

Also, Spotsylvania’s Board of Supervisors will take up the controversial matter of how much developers should pay the county in proffers. Marion Hicks is asking the county to reduce the proffers he must pay per home at the proposed Summerfield residential development, and Hazel Land Cos. is seeking a rezoning to allow the Lakeside townhouse development in the Lee’s Hill Commercial Center.
