Greenbrier Music opening Caroline Street store

Greenbrier Music is opening a store at 721 Caroline St. in downtown Fredericksburg that is expected to open by Nov. 1. The store will sell drums, guitars, amplifiers, keyboards, lighting and other musical accessories, said company owner and lifelong Fredericksburg-area resident Stephen Whitesides.

The company has been in business for about 12 years, but it focused more on music lessons than instrument sales for much of that time. It opened its first retail store on Wallace Lane in Spotsylvania County a few years ago, and a year ago moved into its current space at 1117 Tyler St. in the city’s Battlefield Industrial Park. The company has about 40,000 square feet of space on Tyler Street, about 15,000 of which it uses for drum sales. The company will keep that space and open the Caroline Street store as a second, more visible location. It also does a lot of web-based sales.

Greenbrier Music is moving into the roughly 1,800-square-foot space vacated by Hope Co. earlier this year. Hope Co., a women’s clothing and accessories store, is now in a smaller space at 614 Caroline St. next to the Courtyard by Marriott hotel downtown.
