Stafford woman wins charity auction to help injured veterans
Stafford County woman Julie Lee submitted the winning bid earlier this year for a 2012 Chevrolet Camaro SS in a national online auction to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project, and on Monday she picked up the prize from Radley Chevrolet on U.S. 1 near the Spotsylvania County-Fredericksburg line. Lee – whose husband, Harvey, served 30 years active duty with the U.S. Marine Corps – heard about the charity auction in May and decided to submit a bid. Much to her surprise, she outbid other participants for the Camaro, which General Motors donated. The winning bid was a little over $32,000, all of which will go to the WWP, which helps members of the U.S. military injured while on duty on or after Sept. 11, 2001. Lee describes her new black Camaro as a “sweet ride” and hopes the auction shines light on the work being done to help wounded veterans.
