Taxable sales flat in Fredericksburg region for Q2

Taxable sales were little changed in the Fredericksburg area during the three months ending June 30 compared with the same period the year before, according to data released this week by the Virginia Department of Taxation.

There were about $843 million in taxable sales during the second quarter in the region, about $2 million more than that period the year before. The region comprises the city and Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania and Stafford counties.

Caroline was up 4.8 percent year-over-year, while King George was up 2.6 percent. Combined, however, those two localities made up just 6.8 percent of the area’s taxable sales — not enough to move the needle much areawide.

Stafford and Spotsylvania counties were up fractionally, while Fredericksburg’s tally fell 1.4 percent. Spotsylvania made up 41 percent of the region’s total, followed by 28.1 percent in Stafford and 24 percent in Fredericksburg.

Virginia’s $22.2 billion in taxable sales for the second quarter were up 1.8 percent year-over-year.
