Rappahannock Goodwill to buy Gallahan’s building

Rappahannock Goodwill Industries will buy the 82,000-square-foot former Gallahan’s Furniture building in the Lee’s Hill area of Spotsylvania County, the company announced tonight. RGI will move its offices on Caroline and Princess Anne streets in downtown Fredericksburg to the two-story building, which has been vacant since 2008 following the closing of the furniture business and a subsequent foreclosure. It will also house a new Goodwill store and outlet, feature space to be used by other organizations that complement the mission of Goodwill, and more. Woody Van Valkenburgh, president and CEO of RGI, said the organization’s eventual relocation to the new building is part of an expanded mission for Goodwill locally. RGI plans to breathe new life into the building and make it a “central hub in providing services to assist those with disabilities or other barriers to employment.” The project will take several years to complete.

We’ll have more on this story in the FLS this weekend.
