Blackstone Coffee plans to add a wine bar inside its store at Fredericksburg’s Eagle Village, said owner Don Merritt. He has applied for a license from the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control to sell wine and beer and is awaiting approval. The bar would be in the back-right corner of the store. He also plans to offer light appetizers such as dips, salads, meats, cheeses and breadsticks. The focus would be on reasonably priced wines from Virginia, Spain and Italy as well as Belgian beers. Customers would order food and drinks at the bar, and wait staff would bring it to their table. Merritt plans to add additional seating on the patio. The coffee operation and overall store hours would remain the same, with the wine bar open from about 4 p.m. until close. Merritt said many coffee shops have expanded into wine bars and said it’s a logical fit. He hopes to have the new venture open sometime in October.
