Blockbuster store in Chatham Heights last survivor in area

The Blockbuster Video in the Chatham Heights area of southern Stafford County is the last store in the area for a movie-rental chain that once had numerous locations in the Fredericksburg region. The 2,000-square-foot Blockbuster at 315 Garrisonville Road in North Stafford, which was a franchise store owned by Dallas-based Capital Entertainment, is now holding a liquidation sale and is no longer renting out movies. The storewide closing sale is expected to end within the next week, possibly as soon as Thursday, and all rental products are due back.

The 5,100-square-foot location at 430 Chatham Heights Road is a corporate-owned store leased from The Malone Schooler Co. The lease expires Thursday, but Malone Schooler Co. General Manager Ann Bowman said new Blockbuster owner Dish Network received an extension until the end of July to decide whether to renew the lease. For now, it remains unclear whether the company will renew.

The next-closest Blockbuster store is in Dale City.
