Fredericksburg Borders not on closure list

The Borders bookstore in Fredericksburg’s Central Park is not on the latest list of stores that are in jeopardy of closing. As Bloomberg reports, Borders filed court papers today seeking permission to liquidate assets at another 51 stores as it tries to exit bankruptcy. The chain, which reportedly has several potential bidders, is still negotiating with landlords to avoid closing the stores and has said it doesn’t expect all 51 to close. Earlier this year Borders decided to close the store at the Stafford Marketplace, but the 24,000-square-foot Fredericksburg store has survived.

There are no Virginia stores on the list of 51 filed today. The store at BWI Airport in Maryland is on the list of potential closings along with airport locations in New York, Boston, Indianapolis, Phoenix, Dallas, Detroit and Raleigh-Durham.
