Wegmans can still use script logo

Wegmans Food Markets, which runs a popular grocery store in Fredericksburg’s Celebrate Virginia South development, will continue using its script logo (see below) after settling a lawsuit that Walgreens filed in November that claimed some of the grocer’s logos infringed on the drugstore company’s trademarks. The logo that must be discontinued by the end of June 2012 is the one pictured at the top left of this post — the “circle W” symbol that is used on certain Wegmans-branded products such as snack foods and soda. Wegmans did not admit liability as part of the settlement. Company spokeswoman Jo Natale said in a statement that ”the cost of making relatively minor changes to a limited number of products was much less than the cost of litigating this case to the end.” She added: “There was never any intent on our part to make our products or logos resemble those of Walgreens.” Here is the logo Wegmans will continue to use:
