Fredericksburg business notes Feb. 19-25

Fredericksburg City Council has started interviewing candidates for two openings on the city’s Economic Development Authority. The terms of current EDA members Rick Pullen and Mary Jane O’Neill will expire April 30, and City Council will likely appoint the replacements March 22. Four city residents have applied for the two openings: Tom CrimminsBob Carter, Chuck Reiche and Matt Kelly. Other people interested in applying have a few more days to do so.

The Rappahannock United Way honored four area businesses with the Chairman’s Awards of Excellence during Tuesday’s luncheon to celebrate the 2010 annual workplace campaign, which raised $3.4 million for the charitable organization — $100,000 more than the year before. Printpack Inc. won for employee campaign performance, Mary Washington Healthcare for corporate involvement and support, Rappahannock Electric Cooperative for employee education and volunteerism, and URS Corporation for best overall performance. GEICO was recognized as the highest contributor to the campaign with $636,434 donated.

Sammy T’s restaurant at 801 Caroline St. is celebrating 30 years of business in downtown Fredericksburg. Opened in early 1981 by the late Sibby and Samuel T. Emory Jr., the restaurant is still owned by members of the Emory family.

Mike Lieber, president of Spotsylvania County-based AEGIS Financial Solutions Inc., has published a political thriller called “Ops Populi: Inception”.

TDP Business Solutions LLC has leased 2,800 square feet of office space at 1267 Courthouse Road in Stafford County. Virgil Nelson of Thalhimer|Cushman & Wakefield handled the lease negotiations.   

Jazzercise has leased 1,200 square feet of retail space at 2777 Jefferson Davis Highway in Stafford County. Wilson H. Greenlaw of Thalhimer|Cushman & Wakefield handled the lease negotiations.
