What Fredericksburg stand-alone movie rental businesses remain?
The Wall Street Journal ran an interesting article this morning about the slow death of stand-alone movie rental businesses in the U.S. Blockbuster Inc. declared bankruptcy last week. Movie Gallery, which also owned Hollywood Video, announced last month that it was shutting down all its stores. Meanwhile the stock price of DVD-by-mail company Netflix soars, Redbox kiosks rapidly populate more and more grocery stores, and movies ordered on-demand at home grow in popularity.
I plan to do my Sunday Business Browser column on this trend. I am trying to figure out what stand-alone movie rental stores still exist in the Fredericksburg region. I know of two Blockbuster locations in Stafford County (click here for locations). DVDs On The Run has a drive-through store on State Route 3 in Spotsylvania County. Anybody else know of others in the area? If so post them in the comments.
