Fredericksburg regional jobless rate at 6.3 percent in August

The Fredericksburg region’s jobless rate was 6.3 percent in August, according to Virginia Employment Commission data released today. That was down from 6.4 percent in July and 6.5 percent in June, but above the 6 percent rate from August 2009 and nearly double the region’s 10-year annual average of 3.3 percent. The state rate was 7 percent, and the U.S. rate 9.5 percent. The Fredericksburg region comprises the city and Caroline, King George, Stafford and Spotsylvania counties. Here is local data from the VEC showing state rank and jobless rates from August, July and August 2009 (Note: There are 134 localities in Virginia):
