Bill submitted to extend National Capital Region to Fredericksburg area

U.S. Rep. Rob Wittman submitted a bill to the House of Representatives this week that would extend the definition of the National Capital Region to the entire Fredericksburg region–the city and Caroline, King George, Stafford and Spotsylvania counties. Fredericksburg-area economic development officials and private developers have long been lobbying for the U.S. General Services Administration to expand the definition of the NCR, which now includes just the inner Washington suburbs. This would allow local real estate owners to submit bids for federal government leases, which are controlled by the GSA. In many cases the GSA looks at office space only in the NCR when seeking to lease space for federal tenants. If the bill passed, area developers could have an easier time securing federal leases and the jobs that come with them. See tomorrow’s FLS for more.
