Eagle Landing now sold out

Eagle Landing is now full. The University of Mary Washington announced today that contracts have been signed for all 624 beds in the under-construction apartment building at Eagle Village across U.S. 1 from campus. That’s a remarkable turnaround from the activity at Eagle Landing earlier this month, when less than half of the units were full. UMW reduced the price for the rentals March 12, but even as of last week the units remained just half full according to UMW officials. We wrote about this in Saturday’s FLS and looked at how the affordability of Eagle Landing compared with other housing choices for students. The UMW housing selection process is now ongoing, and apparently momentum for Eagle Landing picked up steam over the past week. I’m checking with university officials to find out the extent to which the decision to open up Eagle Landing to sophomores played a role in getting the complex full. Click here to see the press release UMW put out today, and see tomorrow’s FLS for more.

On a related note, the right southbound lane of U.S. 1 between Mary Washington Boulevard and College Avenue in Fredericksburg was scheduled to close to traffic at 9 a.m. today for work on the pedestrian bridge that connects Eagle Landing to campus. The lane is expected to remain closed on weekdays until mid-April. It will re-open on weekends.
