Surgi-Center of Central Virginia breaking ground in city March 23

The Surgi-Center of Central Virginia will break ground on its 42,692-square-foot new home on a 2-acre lot next to Fredericksburg’s Dixon Park at noon March 23, according to the Fredericksburg Department of Economic Development. The surgery center and medical office building are now located at the intersection of Chatham Heights Road and Kings Highway in Stafford County. The Surgi-Center, which could bring 100 jobs and about $284,000 in annual tax revenue into the city, received a $50,000 grant from Fredericksburg’s Economic Development Authority toward the estimated $181,000 it will have to pay in building permit, water, sewer and other development fees. The incentive comes from bond fees, not tax dollars. The Surgi-Center group was not able to find a site for its expansion in Stafford. City officials hope the new project fuels the redevelopment of the Dixon Street corridor. Dixon Park and the Surgi-Center will be able to share their respective parking lots, since the two facilities aren’t typically busy at the same time of day.
