Ukrop’s ‘remains committed’ to Fredericksburg

Ukrop’s Super Markets says it’s committed to the Fredericksburg area. The grocer announced Friday that it plans to close its underperforming Roanoke store Oct. 24. Of the four stores that the company has outside the core Richmond market (two in Williamsburg, one each in Roanoke and Spotsylvania County), half will have been closed this year. I asked Ukrop’s spokeswoman Susan Rowe about the company’s plans for the Fredericksburg-area store. She declined to comment, but referred me to a Friday post that the company made on its Facebook page:

We wanted to share first with our Facebook fans that it’s been a hard day for all of us here at Ukrop’s. Today, we made the very difficult decision to close our Roanoke store. Thank you to all of our wonderful customers and associates in Roanoke for your loyalty and support. But, we also want all of our fans to know that we remain committed to growing our business in Richmond, Williamsburg and Fredericksburg.
