PBM Products up for sale?

Gordonsville-based PBM Products, which makes private-label baby foods, may be looking to sell all or part of itself, according to a report in today’s Wall Street Journal. Investment bank Jefferies & Co. has been shopping around the company in recent months, and the company could be valued at as much as $1 billion, according to the report. PBM’s products include infant formulas, baby food and soy milk that are sold as store brands of companies including Wal-Mart and Kroger. PBM also has its own brand, Bright Beginnings.

Paul B. Manning founded PBM in 1997 and remains president and CEO. In 2007 the company was named as one of Entrepreneur magazine’s 500 fastest-growing companies in the U.S.

I’m checking with the company on this report.
