Harris Teeter out of Ukrop’s running?

Harris Teeter is no longer in the running to buy Ukrop’s Super Markets, according to a report published today by Supermarket News. The report, which is based on anonymous sources, says HT was outbid by a private equity group that is in "exclusive negotiations" to buy Ukrop’s.

I have checked with representatives from Ukrop’s and Harris Teeter and will let you know what I find out. They declined comment to Supermarket News.

    It will be interesting to see if HT continues to plan for a new distribution center, or if they abandon that now that they’ve lost Ukrops. If so, that would seem to say they’ve been planning for the Ukrops buy for quite a while.
