Jobless rate drops slightly
The jobless rate in the Fredericksburg area dropped slightly in March from the month before, according to data released today by the Virginia Employment Commission.
The unemployment rate was 6.4 percent in March in the George Washington Regional Commission–which includes Fredericksburg and Caroline, King George, Stafford and Spotsylvania counties. That was down from 6.6 percent in February.
Nonetheless, the jobless rate was significantly above the local 3.5 percent figure from last March. The March rate was the highest for that month in the area since 1992.
