In stocks, as in fantasy baseball, don’t wait too long

LAST SATURDAY was the annual auction draft for the Rotisserie baseball league that a bunch of us FLS newsroom folks are in.

Each of us started with $260 (not real money) to spend on a team of 14 hitters and nine pitchers. You can bid as much as you want on any single player as long as you save at least $1 for each roster spot still open.

The success of your fantasy team is then dependent on the real-life performance of the players whom you’ve signed for the year.

This hobby is one of my chief obsessions, as embarrassing as it is to admit. There are many downsides to this activity, not the least of which is you end up caring how your pitcher did in a meaningless game played between two bad teams in September.

But as faithful readers of this column (surely there’s at least one of you out there) will know, I believe this pursuit has taught me a lot about the stock market.
