Unemployment up to 6.2 percent locally
The jobless rate in the Fredericksburg area rose to 6.2 percent in January, according to data released this morning by the Virginia Employment Commission. That’s the highest January rate since 1993. The Fredericksburg area comprises the city, Caroline, King George, Stafford and Spotsylvania counties. Click here for the data. Here is the latest press release from the VEC. The statewide rate for January was 6.4 percent, and the U.S. rate was 8.5 percent.
