Stafford supervisors vote against lower aircraft tax

The Stafford County Board of Supervisors voted last night to reject a proposal that would have lowered the county’s personal property tax on aircraft from $3 per $100 of assessed value to a 1-cent rate. Supervisors Paul Milde, George Schwartz and Mark Dudenhefer voted in favor of the reduced rate. Airport officials say the tax reduction is necessary to attract corporate hangars to Stafford Regional Airport. The tax rate at the Manassas and Leesburg airports is 1 cent. Here is a link to a previous article about this situation. The matter could come up for another vote before the budget is approved in the spring.
