Virginia unemployment rate up

Virginia’s unemployment rate rose to 4.6 percent in August, its highest level since January 1997. The Virginia Employment Commission makes clear that jobless rates are often higher in August, but it also says that the "sluggish" economy is contributing to the higher number. “It looks like unemployment will be higher for at least the next several months,” the VEC says in its monthly unemployment report.
