Ward honored at professional woman’s colloquium

Fredericksburg business owner Kara Vanderpool Ward has received the Patricia Lacey Metzger Distinguished Achievement Award.

She accepted the honor yesterday at the 20th annual Leadership Colloquium for Professional Women.

The event at UMW’s Stafford County campus featured a speech by Cynthia Cooper, one of Time magazine’s Persons of the Year. She was the whistle-blower at WorldCom on one of the largest corporate frauds in history.

The Metzger award, which recognizes people who uphold high standards personally and professionally and fulfill a career goal of “significant stature,” is in memory of late UMW professor Patricia Lacey Metzger, a UMW professor and a Colloquium founder.

Ward is the founder and president of The Launch Group, which has offices in Fredericksburg and Harrisonburg. A Colloquium Advisory Board member, she donated her time (and that of her colleagues) to support this year’s revamped Colloquium, and is also past chair of the Next Generation group of the Fredericksburg Area Chamber of Commerce.
