Rio Car Wash owners donate $1,500 to EmpowerHouse

Tropical storm Karen put a damper on Rio Car Wash’s Oct. 12 benefit car wash for EmpowerHouse, so owners Jeff and Neil Small provided a “rain check” by donating $1,500 to the nonprofit.

The benefits were held at Smalls’ locations at 70 Sebring Dr. in Stafford County and the other is at 10050 Jefferson Davis Highway in Massaponax.

“Of course we wanted a huge turnout, but with the weather being as rainy as it was that weekend, we wanted to make sure it wasn’t a complete loss for EmpowerHouse,” said Jeff Small.

Empowerhouse is a non-profit organization providing confidential domestic violence assistance in the city of Fredericksburg and the counties of Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George, and Caroline since 1978.

FDA proposes rules to make feed safer

WASHINGTON—Amid incidents of pets dying from dog treats, the Food and Drug Administration is proposing long-awaited rules to make pet food and animal feed safer.

The rules stem from a sweeping food safety law passed by Congress almost three years ago. Like rules proposed earlier this year for human food, they would focus on preventing contamination before it begins.
