Bethems seek grant for rooftop bar
Blake and Aby Bethem are asking the Fredericksburg Economic Development Authority for a $25,893 grant to help fund a rooftop bar atop their planned Vivify Burger Lounge at 314 William St. downtown.
The Bethems, who run Bistro Bethem across William Street, plan to start construction on the burger lounge later this month. They said in the EDA application that the requested grant would be the final piece of the financing needed for the rooftop project.
Theirs was one of eight requests that the EDA received for its latest cycle of JumpStart! grants. In all the EDA got grant requests totaling about $87,500.
Rahmein Mostafavi, whose Cool Cow Comedy company puts on shows at the downtown Courtyard by Marriott, asked for a total of $46,400 in grants for advertising. He plans a Christmas show this year at the Inn at the Olde Silk Mill.
Smaller grant requests came from the Fredericksburg Area Museum & Cultural Center for an arts event and exhibition, Fredericksburg All Ages for an arts workshop series, Hope House for the annual Trees of Hope fundraiser and the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce for the Leadership Fredericksburg program.
The Fredericksburg EDA will decide on the grants at its Aug. 13 meeting.
