Lonely Beetle

An abandoned Volkswagon Beetle in front of the Milford Post Office is lit by an oncoming car on Tuesday, Feb. 5. (Elijah Nouvelage/The Free Lance-Star)
On Tuesday afternoon I was told to find a feature for Wednesday’s paper. I wanted to get out of town and find a natural, rural scene, thinking that the closer to Fredericksburg I was, the more familiar found scenes would be to readers.
I had never been to Bowling Green or the general area and had been told it was a nice place to visit, so I headed down Route 2. Bowling Green, while a nice little town, had nothing going on. The cafe downtown was empty, and nobody was walking around the streets. I drove west and took some side roads until I came to Milford, where I encountered this interesting Beetle. It was afternoon still, and the scene just wasn’t right. After following some Bowling Green VFD fire trucks on a dud call I came back through and liked how lonely and moody the scene looked. I waited for an oncoming car to light the Beetle just right and liked how it turned out.
What do you think?
