O’Roark honored
State Trooper Mike Hamer (background, left) thanks Mason O’Roark (background, right), an employee at the Peumansend Creek Regional Jail in Caroline County for saving Hamer’s his life on Dec. 8. Hamer was shot in the leg during a scuffle with a pedestrian he stopped on Interstate 95 near Thornburg. O’Roark saw that the trooper was in trouble, stopped and and performed first aid. A brief ceremony honoring O’Roark’s efforts was held at the jail on Thursday morning. (Robert A. Martin/The Free Lance-Star)
