Their Just Desserts

Culpeper trial lawyer Moncia Chernin distributed hundreds of donated pies to the clients of the Culpeper Food Closet on Tuesday, November 22, 2011. Chernin’s project began three years ago when she saw an item in the Culpeper paper saying that the local food closet was short on funds.

Traditionally, the food closet had provided a Thanksgiving meal, complete with turkey, sides and a pumpkin pie, to families. But its client list grew so long that the pies alone were costing about $4,000, and it cut out the dessert to focus on the rest of the meal.

That’s where Chernin stepped in.

Donated pies are stacked everywhere at the Law Offices of Monica Chernin in downtown Culpeper. The pies are given to the disadvantaged to enjoy on Thanksgiving with their families.
