The Free Lance-Star Photography Department shares the stories behind the photos.
I covered the Battlefield District semifinals at James Monroe the other night. The games didn’t really yield any great photos but I wanted to show you how crowded it can get on the baseline. It can be challenging to work when you have to shoot around referrees and cheerleaders. We all have a job and purpose so it is best to work with rather than against these obstacles. Invariably a ref comes between me and a good picture. I like to think it isn’t on purpose but there have been a few instances I’m not so sure about! I did manage to not get run over by an overzealous ref or smacked with an errant pompom and transmitted a couple pictures back to the paper. Here’s a panoramic shot of the JM baseline to give you an idea of just how tight things are…. -Mike Morones
