ROOTS >> Hundreds attend genealogy event

Fredericksburg Mayor Mary Katherine Greenlaw got to see how deep her Virginia roots go during a Family History Day hosted by the Fredericksburg Stake of The Church

of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Stake President Michael Kitchens presented Greenlaw with a chart showing more than seven generations.

Greenlaw and more than 500 attendees heard keynote speaker Greg Crawford talk about his intense search, discovery and digitization of a treasure trove of previously lost records from throughout Virginia.

They also took workshops on family history. The LDS Church church has two family history centers in the area open to the public, including one at 20 Boscobel Road in Stafford County.
