The Emotional Impact of Cancer
Dr. Frederick C. Tucker, Jr., of Fredericksburg Oncology will discuss Coping with Cancer: Understanding the Emotional Impact 3 p.m. Nov. 7, at Christ Church in Spotsylvania. The discussion will be held in All Saints Hall on the church grounds at 8951 Courthouse Rd. The event is free, with child care and refreshments provided by the church.
Unlike heart diseases and other conditions that may be just as potentially lethal, the diagnosis of cancer has its own particular emotional impact. Churches, community groups, families and friends want to be more supportive emotionally, but may not know how to do so.
Dr. Tucker’s talk will focus on the language used to discuss cancer and the problems such language can cause, the emotions experienced by cancer patients and loved ones, common fears about discussing a cancer diagnosis, and ways to support patients living with cancer. There will be a question and answer session.
