The Pursuit of Happiness
Does everyone else get down in February? I try to remind myself that spring always comes, but come February, it’s really hard to remember. I get tired of the cold, tired of the wind, tired of the gray. I start pacing in front of my closet, looking at my colorful, lightweight skirts and dresses. I stare out the window with my sons, wondering when we’ll get to go to the park. I start wearing my running shoes around the house, even though I won’t venture out to run when it’s below 40 degrees.
And when you spend most of your time being antsy, it’s easy to start thinking a lot about joy and happiness. And wondering where they went. So I was intrigued to come across the story "Happiness Makoever" in Psychology Today. The article reminded me of religion, even though faith is barely mentioned. Many of the techniques echo words I’ve heard in various sermons–one of the perks of my job is that I get to hear quite a few homilies. Anyway, check it out and see if these methods can help you add joy to your life. And let me know what you do when happiness seems far away.
