Travel to Jerusalem
This weekend, Resurrection Lutheran Church offers the chance to travel back to the days of the original Christmas story. The church will host a Bethlehem Marketplace, which organizers say will be "as authentic as possible." Check it out at the Spotsylvania County church, tonight, 7-9 p.m.; tomorrow, 5-8 p.m.; Sunday, 4-6 p.m.
In other news, the Rev. Richard Cizik resigned yesterday from his job as spokesperson for the National Association of Evangelicals. The group’s supporters were upset over Cizik’s comments earlier this month regarding civil unions and abortion. Cizik, a Stafford County resident, has been in trouble with evangelicals before. Last year, James Dobson and others wrote a letter calling for Cizik’s resignation because of his support for environmentalism. No one who signed the letter actually belonged to the NAE.
Earlier this year, Time named Cizik one of its 100 most influential people of the year because of Cizik’s work with scientists on protecting the environment.
