Republicans: Still the God-Friendly Party
Democrats have been trying to change their image to seem more comfortable with faith, but the public still views Republicans as more friendly to religion, according to a recent study.
Last week, the Pew Research Center released the study of 3,000 Americans. Half of them saw Republicans as more God-friendly, and 30 percent thought Democrats are. But keep heart, Democrats. Only 15 percent of the respondents see you as unfriendly to God.
The study also shows Rudy Giuliani coming in as the least religious presidential candidate. Mitt Romney is the most. Democrats John Edwards and Barrack Obama take second and third place respectively.
Thirty percent of people said it was important for the president to be religious, but that might not help Romney all that much. A quarter of respondents said they’d be less likely to vote for a Mormon. And 36 percent of evangelical Republicans–a core voting group for GOP candidates– said they’d be less likely to vote for a Mormon.
